Elopement Day Guide: Ontario, Canada, and International

Congratulations on your upcoming elopement! You’re about to embark on an unforgettable adventure, and I’m so excited to be part of it. Below is a detailed guide for your elopement day—whether you're staying local in Ontario, traveling across Canada, or saying "I do" in an amazing destination abroad.

This guide will walk you through what to expect, what to do before the big day, and a few tips and tricks to make the day as smooth as possible.

Ontario Elopement Day Guide

Before Your Elopement Day:

  1. Finalizing Details:
  • Location: Ontario is full of incredible elopement spots—from the Niagara Falls area to Algonquin Park, to hidden beaches and forests. I’ll help you scout out the perfect location.
  • Permits: Some locations may require a permit (e.g., Niagara Parks, some provincial parks). I’ll assist you in securing permits if needed.
  • Timeline: I will create a custom timeline for your day. This helps us stay on track and ensures we have time for all the key moments—from your First Look to sunset portraits.
  1. Packing Tips:
  • Weather: Ontario weather can be unpredictable, so make sure to check the forecast the week of your wedding. A light jacket or umbrella is always a good idea, especially if you're outdoors.
  • Footwear: If we’re heading into nature or hiking, bring comfortable shoes to change into after the ceremony for your portraits.
  • Personal Touches: Incorporate meaningful elements like your favorite flowerswritten vows, or a special heirloom.

On the Day: What to Expect

  1. Getting Ready:
  • We’ll start by capturing your getting ready moments. Whether you're getting ready at an Airbnb, a cottage, or a local hotel, I’ll document those intimate moments—hair and makeup, getting into your dress/suit, or sharing a quiet moment with family or friends.
  1. First Look:
  • The First Look is a beautiful, intimate moment where you get to see each other for the first time before the ceremony. It can be just the two of you, or we can involve a parent or fur baby (if you're bringing one along). This is a perfect opportunity for emotional, candid photos.
  1. Ceremony:
  • I’ll be there to capture every detail—from tears of joy to laughter during the vows. I’ll work discreetly to capture the emotions, but also the environment—whether that’s the sound of a waterfall or the beauty of a forest.
  1. Post-Ceremony Portraits:
  • After your ceremony, we’ll take some portrait shots in your beautiful location. I recommend leaving a little buffer for this time so we have the flexibility to explore different spots around your location.
  1. Adventure Session (if applicable):
  • If you’ve chosen to incorporate an adventure session (hiking, kayaking, etc.), we’ll capture dynamic, adventurous photos, full of energy and life! This is also a great time to get those stunning wide-angle shots in breathtaking scenery.
  1. Family and Guest Photos:
  • If you have guests or family, I’ll capture the family photos you’ve requested. These will be relaxed and candid, making sure we get everyone involved without the stress of a formal pose session.

After the Day: What to Expect from Me

  • Editing: After the elopement, I’ll begin editing your photos with a focus on keeping them authentic and natural. I’ll ensure every photo feels true to the vibe of your day. Expect a sneak peek within a week, and your full gallery within 4-6 weeks.
  • Gallery: Once your photos are ready, you’ll receive a private online gallery with all your edited, high-resolution images. You’ll be able to download them, order prints, and share with family and friends.

Tips & Tricks for Your Ontario Elopement:

  • Timing: The best time for photos is golden hour—that beautiful hour before sunset. If you’re flexible, I recommend scheduling portraits around that time.
  • Pack Light: If we’re hiking or in a remote location, don’t overpack! I’ll carry your bouquet and any small items for you, but lightweight accessories are key.
  • Let’s Have Fun: Ontario’s landscapes are so diverse, so let’s make sure we capture it all! Whether it’s a spontaneous dance in the woods or jumping into a lake for a fun portrait, I’m here to encourage those candid, genuine moments.

Canada-Wide Elopement Day Guide (Outside Ontario)

Before Your Elopement Day:

  1. Location & Logistics:
  • Whether you’re in British Columbia’s mountain landscapes, the Prairies of Alberta, or a beautiful beach in Nova Scotia, we’ll plan your ideal spot. Each province offers unique landscapes perfect for elopements.
  • We’ll also work out travel logistics to make sure everything flows smoothly. I’ll arrive a day or two before the elopement to scout the location and make sure everything is perfect.
  1. Packing & Preparation:
  • Weather: Canada is diverse in climate, so be prepared for weather conditions in your chosen location. If you're in the mountains, bring extra layers. If on the coast, prepare for rain or wind!
  • Outdoor Adventures: If you plan to do an adventure session like hiking or paddleboarding, ensure you have appropriate gear—comfortable shoes, jackets, etc.

  • Ceremony: I'll document every emotional moment during your ceremony. The scenic locations across Canada provide epic backdrops, and I’ll capture both the intimate moments and grand landscape shots.

Tips & Tricks for Your Canada-Wide Elopement:

  • Timing: Plan your elopement for early morning or late afternoon for the best light.
  • Pack Light but Smart: Be prepared for weather changes! A jacket and extra pair of shoes are a must if we’re in the mountains or near water.
  • Allow Extra Time: Travel time in Canada can vary, especially if we’re in more remote areas. I recommend a relaxed timeline to avoid feeling rushed.
